30mm Rise – 9, 12 and 15 Degree Backsweep Handlebar – Safety Notice and Upgrade Program

Published October 2026

We’ve become aware of a small number of handlebar failures across specific batches of our titanium handlebars. Based on our inspection of returned bars, we believe these failures are linked to riding loads that exceed the ISO 4210 standard the handlebars were manufactured to; something that’s easy to do without realising, especially as many riders aren’t aware of what the standard covers. In response, we’re offering a free upgrade to our current higher-strength handlebar to every customer with one of these models, whether or not they’ve experienced any issues.

Stop riding and inspect your handlebars

If you own one of the models listed below, please inspect your handlebars before use by following the checklist on this page. If you find any signs of damage or wear, or if you are concerned, stop riding immediately and request an upgrade below.

How to Inspect Your Handlebars

As soon as possible, take 30 seconds to check your handlebars. If possible, remove any bar tape or grips from the bend area for a thorough inspection. Here’s what to look for:

  1. Creasing or wrinkling at the bends

Run your fingers along the bend area where the handlebar transitions from the clamping section to the grip area. Feel for any creases, wrinkles, or rippling in the titanium surface. Even slight surface irregularities here may indicate metal fatigue, and the handlebar should be replaced immediately.

  2. Bars bent out of true

Stand in front of the bike and sight along each side of the handlebar. Both sides should be symmetrical. If one side droops, angles differently, or the bar looks twisted or asymmetric compared to when it was new, it may indicate the bar was bent by impact or fatigue. Do not attempt to bend it back or continue to use it. Replace it immediately.

  3. Visible cracks or fractures

Inspect the full length of the bar carefully, paying particular attention to the bend areas and the stem clamp zone. Look for hairline cracks, splits, or any break in the surface. Cracks in titanium can propagate rapidly under load. Any crack, no matter how small, means the bar must be retired.

  4. Dents, gouges, or impact damage

Check for evidence of impacts: dents, deep scratches that have removed material, or flat spots. Titanium is resilient, but concentrated impacts from crashes, rock strikes, or transport damage can compromise structural integrity.

  5. Stem clamp area damage
Check around the stem clamp contact patch for fretting (small marks from micro-movement between surfaces), stress marks, or any deformation. Ensure your stem bolts are torqued to the manufacturer’s specification — over-torquing can damage titanium bars.

When in doubt, don’t ride

If you find any of the above signs, or anything else that doesn’t look right, stop riding the handlebar and request a free upgrade using the form below.

Understanding Your Handlebar’s Rating

All Roost titanium handlebars are manufactured to ISO 4210 standards. This standard covers the demands of cross-country, trail riding and bikepacking. It is not rated for extreme bike park, DH racing, freeride or other high-impact disciplines. Using any handlebar beyond its rated category should be avoided.

Our current upgraded handlebar features thicker walls and greater strength than the previous design.

If your riding style includes extreme-level riding, we recommend a handlebar rated specifically for those conditions, regardless of material.
